Marine ALVDen

Enteromorpha are green algae (seaweed) formed by a tube flattened more or less ramified alternating inflated segments and throttling. They are fixed at the substrate by a half-tone engraving feather-grass narrow. The green thallus clearly can reach several centimeters. Photophilic they develop as well in the basins of high level or means as on the rocks where they support the desiccation and the insulation. These are algae that one meets all the year but especially from May to September.

The production process require wild seaweed harvest inside an Italian “valle da pesca” or a human controlled and sustainable brackish lagoon in the historical Italian Venetian lagoon (EU) and followed a purification and a natural desiccation under the sun. The dry product is commercialized in vacuum-packed envelopes inside 5kg boxes . This product is in trend to be labeled –CO2 in the carbon footprint international market .

CTFA name: Enteromorpha sp. (seaweed) dried algae raw extract


Mode of action: The air-dried ground green macroalgae, Enteromorpha sp. was extracted with ethanol (crude extract) then sequentially fractionated by organic solvents of increasing polarity (petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and water).

The results indicated that fraction demonstrated important antioxidant activity and a good presence of vitamins and minerals.

A method for reducing the formation of and/or treating skin stretchmarks is described. The method is characterized in that a composition is applied to the areas of skin liable to form or comprising stretchmarks, including skin of the thighs, abdomen, and/or breast. One substance-P and NPY inhibitor com­pound obtained from green algae (or chlorophycea) as Enteromorpha is sold by the company Secma under the name "Enteline 2" (INCI name: "butylene glycol, glycerol, Enteromorpha compressa extract; CAS No. 92128-82-0).The high Vit. C content have a important role in the collagen synthesis while Vit.A give skin protection, cellular regeneration, anti-acne action . Metal content like iron can prevent rides .

Marine ALVDulva 

Nature and composition

is a marine active ingredient obtained by Ulva lactuca that is a green alga which grows in temperate and cold seas. Also called Aosa in Japan and sea lettuce in France and England, it has been used for a long time as a sea vegetable for its dietetic properties. In Cuba, it used to be taken as a dry decoction as a vermifuge.

In France, in Brittany it was applied as a dressing on wounds to prevent infections.

These are algae that one meets all the year but especially from May to September.

CTFA name:   Ulva lactuga (seaweed) dried algae raw extract                                            


Mode of action:


This seaweed can be used in cosmetic and in the pharmaceutical production mainly as agents of thickening or as solvents in beard creams, toothpastes etc. In cosmetology, Ulva extract is very appreciate for the ability to activate the physiological mechanisms in the deepest skin layers increasing the abilities of reaction to the generic treatment. The oligoelementis, vitamins and amino acids, develop a mineralizing action on the adipose heaps. The presence of iodine and mineral salts in ionic state, allow an action of thickening on the relaxed skin. The ant-cellulite treatments with Ulva has the purpose to reconstitute the elasticity of the derma through massages. The contained high mineral content in this raw marine ingredient, automatically recalls the liquids of the thighs favoring the drain and contributing to reduce water retention and cellulites.

The ALVDulva  exhibited remarkable antioxidant activity, compared to a synthetic antioxidant: butylated hydroxyanisol (BHA) and butylated hydroxyltoluene (BHT), as evaluated by the rapid TLC screening, β-carotene bleaching, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH.) radical scavenging methods. The positively correlation was apparent between the antioxidant activity (AOE) and present of carotenoids, phenolics and chlorophylls in their extracts. In addition ALVDulva exhibited great potential antibacterial activities against six bacterial strains, with minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values ranged from 400 to 350 μg/ ml. Data indicate that U. latutus could be considered as potential rich source of natural colorant with antioxidant and antibacterial properties and could be utilized in as natural preservative ingredient in food and in cosmeceutical industry.


Nature and composition

This algae is reach of antioxydant , anti U.V. ray peptides and water-soluble sulfated polysaccharides that inhibite in vitro replication of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) at 12.5 µg/mL. In addition, polysaccharides were capable of inhibiting the in vitro replication of Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) on Vero cells values of EC50 of 4.1 and 17.2 µg/mL, respectively. The adsorption step of HSV-1 to the host cell seems to be the specific target for polysaccharide action. While for HIV-1, these results suggest a direct inhibitory effect on HIV-1 replication by controlling the appearance of the new generations of virus and potential virucidal effect. The polysaccharides from S. coronopifolius (PSC) and B. thuyoides (PBT) were composed of galactose, 3,6-anhydrogalactose, uronics acids, sulfate in ratios of 33.1, 11.0, 7.7 and 24.0% (w/w) and 25.4, 16.0, 3.2, 7.6% (w/w), respectively.

Marine GLA

Nature and composition

This algae attracted interest in the search for new drugs and have been shown to be a primary source of bioactive natural compounds and biomaterials.

In extracts of G. gracilis, a high content of R-phycoerythrin together with other valuable products such as arachidonic acid (PUFA ω-6), proteins and carbohydrates was observed. High antioxidant and radical scavenging activities were also detected in summer extracts of the seaweed together with a high content of total phenols. In conclusion, this study points out the possibility of using Gracilaria gracilis as a multi products source for biotechnological, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications for skin care .

Statistical analyses confirmed that Marine GLA values were significantly different in all the seasons, only with comparable values in fall and spring .

Fatty acids in Gracilaria are: tetradecanoic acid (C14:0), palmitoleic acid (9-C16:1), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C18:1n-9c), elaidic acid (C18:1n-9t) and linoleic acid (C18:2n-6c). PUFAs (Poly-Unsaturated Fatty Acids) are 52% by total FAMEs in January, when also the lowest content in MUFAs (Mono Unsaturated Fatty Acids) and SFAs (Saturated Fatty Acids) was found (20% and 37%, respectively) . In October, concentration of PUFAs decreased to 23% and concentration of MUFAs and SFAs reached their highest values (25% and 52%, respectively). In April, when the highest content in FAMEs was found (0.67% dry weight), PUFAs were 47% of total FAMEs and MUFAs and SFAs represented 19% and 34% respectively. Arachidonic acid and linoleic acid were the only two PUFAs ω-6 present in Gracilaria, whereas linolenic acid (C18:3n-3), eicosapentanoic acid (C20:5n-3), eicosatrienoic acid (C20:3n-3) and docosahexanoic acid (C22:6n-3) are the PUFAs ω-3 detected.

This Marine GLA seems to be also a source of R-phycoerythrin if it is harvested in winter time. In the same season, the red seaweed also contains a high amount of other valuable products including arachidonic acid (PUFA ω-6), proteins and carbohydrates. High antioxidant and radical scavenging activity, comparable to that of commercial antioxidants compounds, was found in biomass harvested in summer time when the highest concentration of total phenols is also detected.

Marine ZOM

Zostera marina

Marine ZOM are a paraphyletic group of marine hydrophilus angiosperms which evolved three to four times from land plants back to the sea. These are marine plant and no marine algae .

ZOM can be considered as a rich source for phenolic acids, sulfated phenolic acids, flavones, condensed tannins, and also lignins and demonstrate very high antioxidant activity for skin care .

The polyphenolic flavonoids are found like flavones, flavonols, flavanons, flavanols, and anthocyanidins.

Our ZOM extracts showed antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antidiabetic, anti-cancerogen .It is suggested to use extracts of Zostera marina as a material for cosmetics. The use is claimed for the topical cosmetic use of biologically-active ingredients from extracts and marine source hyaluronates .
